Biography: Mairead Gregory, MAPGI

there as a student in the Gaeltacht area. After qualifying
as a teacher she returned to Kerry where she taught in
different baronies giving her a great knowledge and interest
in Kerry families.

A desire to travel led her to posts in Africa
and Britain. When she returned to Ireland she studied Art,
English Literature, Local History and Genealogy and delighted
in using Gaelic when possible. On her retirement from teaching
she became a full time genealogist and was employed as a
successful researcher for major companies such as Hibernian,
Celtic Origins, Big Family and Eneclann. |
Mairead has been a member of APGI since 1999 and serves
as an APGI consultant in the National Library
of Ireland and also engages in consultancy work in the National
Archives.
Her areas of interest are Local History, Folklore and
Kerry families and their connections. Meeting and encouraging the
elderly members of the Kerry community to record and conserve
their memories for future generations is her main plan.
